The Painted Wastes
The Painted Wastes is an area of the wastes consisting primarily of rock and sand. Few natural organism’s exist here but those who do are ruthless and very dangerous. Notable examples are the Menarl people, the Kai Lin they keep as domesticated livestock, the Hejkin people who live just below the sandline, and the swarms of Needlefang Drake who prowl the desert at night. Some have also heard reports of a huge colony or ant-people living in the caves and underneath most of the Painted Wastes, however these are unconfirmed and heresay.
The Painted Wastes gets its name from the colours that bounce around the rocks and dunes come dusk and dawn. Deep purples, bright pink, burning oranges and reds. It has lured many a weary traveller into gazing too long at the glory of the wastes and succumbing to exhaustion, or a predator. “Look once, remember well, move on” is the creed of the Painted Wastewalkers who guide lost travellers and visitors to The Queue.
